A Letter to the Climb

Dear Mountain,

I’ve thought about quitting you.

About turning around.

About walking away from everything you represent.

You’re too big.

Too steep.

Too unforgiving.

I look up and all I see is distance.

The kind that breaks people.

The kind that makes them forget why they ever started climbing in the first place.

Every inch forward feels like war.

Every step costs more than it gives.

I can’t help but wonder—am I just another Sisyphus, cursed to push and fall, push and fall?

Is there purpose in this repetition, or am I just breaking for nothing?

I’ve heard the voices.

The wind screaming, “Let go. It’s easier that way.” The valley calling up to me, promising comfort, pleasure, rest. “Come back down. There’s no pain here. No pressure. Just ease.”

And I’ll be honest—sometimes I want to.

I want to lay down.

To stop climbing.

To sleep and not feel the ache anymore.

Because this is a tired that lives deeper than my bones—this is soul-tired.

But then—

a whisper.

Quieter than wind, yet somehow louder.

A voice not from the valley, not from the summit, but from within.

“Not yet. Keep going.”

You didn’t give me ease.

You didn’t give me peace.

But you gave me something else: purpose.

You’ve cut my hands.

You’ve stolen my breath.

You’ve bent my knees.

But you’ve also taught me something no valley ever could—

I was made for this.

Not because I’m strong,

but because I was called.

By Yahweh.

By something higher, deeper, older than even you.

So I climb.

Not because I feel like it.

But because I was born for it.

People call it madness.

And maybe they’re right.

But when was anything worth it ever sane?

When did belief ever make sense

to those who never dared to climb?

No—I won’t let go.

Not today.

Even if I’m crawling.

Even if I’m unseen, unheard, misunderstood.

Because I believe in the Creator who called me upward.

I believe there’s special things hidden in your peaks, even if I can’t see it them. But that isn’t why I continue to climb. Not for me. Not for the reward. Simply because I’ve been called to do so.

So here I am—

with scraped skin and stubborn hope.

Still climbing.

Still choosing.

Still trusting the whisper over the wind.

The Creator who whispers, “Keep going.”

1. The Climb, Perseverance, and Endurance

Hebrews 12:1–2

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders… and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Perseverance is a form of worship.

Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

The climb will bear fruit.

James 1:2–4

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness… that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

The pain isn’t wasted. It’s producing something eternal. The climb is not just endurance—it’s transformation.

2. Weariness and Strength

Isaiah 40:29–31

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak… those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Your strength is not found in yourself but in Yahweh.

Psalm 73:26

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

When your spirit is tired, He remains the source.

⸻

3. Divine Calling and the Fight for Purpose

Philippians 3:13–14

“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Refusal to give up—even when the world doesn’t understand.

Romans 5:3–5

”…we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope…”

Suffering → perseverance → identity → hope.

⸻

4. The Still, Small Voice

1 Kings 19:11–12

“After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake… and after the fire came a gentle whisper.”

The loud world fades, and the strength comes not from noise but from the whisper of Yahweh.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is steadfast becuase they trust in You. The crowds want what the Christian has. Peace, hope, love, a calm that cannot be obtained by anyone without Christ. We that believe have obtained the resource for the peace but it takes a focus on Jesus, the resource of true peace, to experience it. Keep it up Riley, stay focused, let’s show the world what God’s people can achieve and a peace they can obtain.
